Chapter 4 - The Commander Who Couldn’t Reach His Own CarAndrew stopped six feet from me.

His white uniform was still immaculate, but panic had transformed his face.
“What did you do?”
Officer Harris positioned himself between us.
“Commander, remain behind the checkpoint.”
“This is my wife.”
“That does not override security instructions.”
Andrew looked toward the black SUV parked nearby.
He pressed the electronic key.
Nothing happened.
He pressed it again.
The lights remained dark.
The vehicle had been provided through a Langford corporate security program. Andrew was an approved driver, not the owner.
His access had been removed before he reached the parking lot.
“What happened to the car?” he demanded.
I held Ethan closer.
“Your car is registered three rows over.”
Andrew glanced toward an older sedan he rarely used because he considered it beneath his image.
Several enlisted personnel nearby had begun watching.
Andrew lowered his voice.
“Olivia, we need to discuss this privately.”
“You chose the location.”
His eyes flicked toward the building.
“Whatever you think you saw—”
“I saw your hand around her waist.”
“It was not what it looked like.”
“It looked practiced.”
He stepped forward.
Officer Harris raised one arm.
“Sir.”
Andrew stopped, but his jaw tightened.
“You froze the nonprofit accounts.”
“I froze private accounts funded by my family.”
“You had no authority.”
“I am the beneficial owner.”
“That money supports military families.”
“No. The nonprofit’s protected operating funds remain active. Your private consulting account is frozen. Serena’s payments are frozen. The travel account is frozen.”
The distinction landed publicly.
Andrew looked around.
People were listening.
He had always survived by blending personal expenses into noble language. A hotel became outreach. Jewelry became donor relations. A mistress became a consultant.
Now every category had been separated.
His phone vibrated again.
He read the message and went pale.
“What now?” I asked.
“You contacted the foundation board.”
“Marcus did.”
“You cannot remove me.”
“The board appointed you because of your connection to my family. Your temporary suspension is already effective.”
Andrew’s nostrils flared.
Ethan looked back at him once.
“Dad?”
Andrew’s rage vanished for a moment.
He looked at the coffee cups and cinnamon rolls.
His face softened.
“Buddy, come here.”
Ethan’s fingers tightened around the tray.
He did not move.
That frightened Andrew more than my silence.
The administration doors opened again.
Two officials stepped outside, accompanied by Serena.
She would not look at Andrew.
One official asked him to return inside.
Andrew turned toward them, then toward me.
His entire life seemed to be moving away in two directions at once.
“You planned this,” he said.
“No.”
I opened the SUV door.
May you like
“You simply gave me a reason to stop preventing it.”
👉 Andrew believed the frozen accounts were my revenge, but the officials behind him were investigating something I had not known existed.
