part 2

PART 2
The room remained frozen as I lowered the framed photograph onto the coffee table. Mason stared at the image as though it might somehow disappear if he blinked long enough. Brooke's face had lost every trace of confidence, and even Tyler avoided looking at anyone in the room.
“No,” Mason whispered. “This isn't what it looks like.”
I smiled faintly. “That's interesting. Because I haven't said a single word about what it looks like.”
His mouth opened, but nothing came out.
Brooke suddenly stepped forward. “She's manipulating everyone!”
“Am I?” I calmly reached into my handbag and removed a second envelope. “Then perhaps you can explain why my father asked me to deliver this only after his funeral.”
I handed the sealed envelope to our attorney, Eleanor Grant. She broke the seal, unfolded the pages, and silently read the contents. As she reached the final paragraph, her expression changed completely.
“Hannah,” she said quietly, “your father anticipated this confrontation.”
Every eye turned toward her.
She cleared her throat and began reading aloud.
“If Mason, Brooke, or anyone else attempts to pressure Hannah before the reading of my will, it confirms exactly what I feared.”
The silence became unbearable.
“My estate has been monitored for months,” Eleanor continued. “Every visit, every financial inquiry, every unauthorized attempt to obtain medical information has been documented.”
Tyler's face turned pale.
“Mason...” he muttered. “You told me nobody would ever know.”
Brooke spun toward him. “Be quiet!”
But it was already too late.
Eleanor calmly placed several printed reports on the table. Phone records. Security logs. Visitor sign-in sheets. My father had quietly hired a private investigator during the final months of his illness. Every meeting between Mason, Brooke, and Tyler had been recorded in a detailed timeline.
Mason slowly sank into the chair, realizing the trap had already closed around him.
Then Eleanor looked directly at me.
“There is one final instruction.”
She reached into her briefcase and removed a small brass key attached to a faded blue ribbon.
“This opens something your father told no one about.”
I frowned. “What does it unlock?”
May you like
Eleanor smiled sadly.
“A room hidden beneath the estate... and the real reason your father feared them.”
