The attorney claimed he had suffered a mental-health crisis and disappeared voluntarily. He denied knowing Grant’s location and argued that the court should not interpret flight as guilt.
Judge Miriam Holt looked unimpressed.
“Mr. Morgan removed his monitoring device, violated a no-contact order, entered protected property, and participated in the theft of trust documents.”
“Those allegations remain unproven.”
The judge turned toward Claire.
She had expected to feel victorious seeing Grant exposed.
Instead, she felt exhausted.
Lily sat with a child advocate in another room. Noah waited beside federal officers. Neither child entered the courtroom.
Lydia presented the forged relocation email, one-way tickets, chapel recordings, mortgage application, bouquet phone, and residential program documents.
Grant’s attorney presented a set of wedding photographs.

“Will you testify that Grant told you I abandoned Lily?”
“Yes.”
“Will you admit you signed documents without reading them?”
“Yes.”
“Will you admit you ignored Lily’s fear because you wanted the wedding?”

“Yes.”

A courthouse alarm sounded.
Smoke appeared near the evidence-storage corridor.
Officers rushed inside.
The fire was contained within minutes, but one item disappeared during the evacuation.
