Chapter 9 - CHLOE CHANGES HER STORY
Chloe was charged with felony aggravated battery of a child because the rings and dental injury elevated the alleged conduct. The exact level would depend on intent, injury, and state law.
She was released under strict conditions.
No contact with Lily.
No contact with witnesses.
Passport surrendered.
Her first statement blamed reflex.
Her second blamed Eleanor.
Her third began after prosecutors showed her Julian’s RED LINE FAILURE SCENARIO.
Chloe had not seen the full plan.
She knew the dinner was designed to force me into a public breakdown.
She knew cameras would record.
She knew Julian intended to file for emergency custody.
She claimed she was told the DNA sample would come from a cheek swab later, not a tooth knocked from Lily’s mouth.
“Why did you hit her?” Detective Quinn asked.
Chloe cried.
“She ruined the dress.”
“That is not an answer.”
“Eleanor told me Victoria never reacted unless Lily was involved.”
“So you struck the child to provoke the mother.”
“I thought the teeth were loose.”
“You did not check.”
“No.”
“Why look at Eleanor first?”
Chloe stopped crying.
Permission had passed between them.
She admitted Eleanor nodded.
She also admitted Julian promised the slap would be described as an accident and the family would protect her.
The plan did not specify two teeth.
Chloe’s force exceeded what Eleanor expected.
That did not make the provocation lawful.
It made several adults responsible in different ways.
Chloe’s cooperation revealed another reversal.
Graham Bennett’s fund never intended to save Sterling Crown permanently.
It planned to acquire the best properties after default, using Lily’s trust shares to create the appearance of family continuity.
Julian would remain chief executive for two years.
Eleanor would keep the mansion.
Chloe would marry Julian after my incapacity order.
Then Graham could replace Julian once the public transition settled.
Chloe had been promised a dynasty.
Her father had designed an acquisition.
Julian had prepared a separate file showing he planned to remove Graham after refinancing.
Every participant expected to betray the others after using me and Lily as the first bridge.
Chloe asked to apologize to Lily.
Dr. Grant advised against contact.
An apology could serve Chloe’s plea more than the child.
I declined.
Chloe sent a written statement through her attorney.
I read only the first line.
I never meant to hurt her that badly.
I stopped.
Intent to cause a smaller injury was not the comfort she imagined.
Her cooperation agreement did not guarantee immunity.
Prosecutors offered a reduced recommendation if she testified truthfully against Julian and Eleanor.
She would still face incarceration, probation, restitution, and permanent consequences for striking a child.
Graham Bennett issued a statement saying his daughter had been manipulated by the Sterlings.
Financial records showed his lawyers drafted the trust-collateral structure.
He was not protecting Chloe.
He was separating himself.
Then federal investigators froze Bennett Capital’s rescue fund.
The fund had already borrowed money against a document bearing my signature.
