Chapter 1

Brother Sells Sister’s $6.3M Farmhouse for $3M—Then Learns His Authority Was Revoked and Every Dollar Is Frozen.
My brother pointed at me in front of my own farmhouse and shouted like anger could rewrite the deed.
Behind him, the white Hudson Valley estate glowed in bright afternoon sunlight, its wraparound porch freshly painted, gravel driveway lined with hydrangeas, and a real-estate sign planted beside the gate like a knife in the grass.
SOLD.
That was what Brandon wanted people to believe.
Tessa Lane stood beside him in a pale floral dress, crying into her phone as alerts kept flashing across her screen.
Near the black SUV, Detective Hale waited with his hands folded.
Attorney Rebecca Shaw stood beside him holding the certified documents I had asked her to bring.
I looked at Brandon, then at the sign.
Then I laughed.
One sharp, disbelieving laugh.
“You sold a house you never owned.”
Brandon stepped toward me, furious.
“The deed is signed. The money is already hers.”
Tessa looked up quickly.
“Hers?” I asked.
Brandon’s jaw tightened.
I reached into my white blazer and pulled out the certified revocation notice.
Then I held it directly in front of his face.
“Your power of attorney was revoked six months ago.”
His pointing hand lowered.
For the first time that day, he looked past me and noticed Rebecca.
Then Detective Hale.
Tessa checked her phone again.
Her face drained of color.
“Brandon… what did you put into my company?”
He pulled away from her.
“Tessa, don’t.”
Detective Hale stepped forward, opened his jacket, and showed his badge.
“Three million in frozen fraud proceeds. Turn around.”
Brandon backed up one step.
Then another.
But there was nowhere to go.
The farmhouse was still mine.
The money was frozen.
The authority was dead.
And my brother had brought the police straight to the driveway because he believed I would arrive too late to stop him.
I reached into my pocket, took out the real farmhouse keys, and walked toward the gate.
Behind me, Tessa began sobbing.
Brandon finally stopped shouting.
That was when I knew he understood.
He had not sold my house.
May you like
He had sold his own future.
