Detective Bell placed Adam’s handwritten warning before her.
Judith did not look surprised.
“Who do you work for?” Bell asked.
“My family.”
“Your family nearly killed a child tonight.”
“My son lost his temper.”
“You ordered him to recover the badge.”
“I was trying to stop Hannah from releasing stolen corporate material.”
Bell opened Project Hearth.
“The material documents deaths.”
“It documents complex medical decisions taken out of context.”
“Who taught you that sentence?”
Judith smiled.
“You believe Owen Price runs Meridian because he controls a security division. Owen has never controlled anything.”
Meridian’s public chief executive was Caroline Voss, a respected healthcare attorney in her late fifties. Hannah had presented preliminary Project Hearth findings to her two weeks earlier.
Caroline expressed concern and encouraged the federal audit.
She also instructed Owen to “protect Hannah from internal retaliation.”
Hannah had trusted her.
Judith revealed Caroline’s original surname.
Mercer.
She was Harold’s older sister.
Ryan and Claire’s aunt.
The family connection had been removed from corporate biographies after Harold retired.
Caroline built Meridian’s legal structure around Harold’s code and Judith’s settlement network. Owen handled security. Judith handled families. Harold supplied technical authority. Caroline ensured courts and hospitals accepted the results.
“She encouraged my audit,” Hannah said.
“To identify which files Adam left behind,” Judith replied.
The federal presentation was bait.
Caroline expected Hannah to gather every raw log in one archive, making deletion easier.
Owen’s call directed the assault, but Caroline authorized the operation.
“Where is Adam?”
Judith’s confidence weakened.
“Caroline moved him.”
“To where?”
“She didn’t tell me.”
“Why did Adam say you work for someone Ryan doesn’t understand?”
“Because Ryan believes I protected him after his childhood trial.”
Judith looked toward her son through the interview glass.
“Caroline selected him.”
Ryan’s asthma emergency at twelve had not been a spontaneous opportunity.
Caroline arranged allergen exposure to test Harold’s suppression protocol on a child whose medical history she controlled.
Judith agreed because Caroline promised enough money to save the family home.
Harold did not know until after the experiment.
Ryan survived.
The trial became the foundation of Project Hearth.
Ryan had spent his adult life working for the woman who intentionally endangered him.
Hannah told him through the interview feed.
He stared at Judith.
“You said Aunt Caroline paid for my treatment.”
“She did.”
“She caused the attack?”
Judith began crying.
“She said the dose was controlled.”
“You watched me stop breathing?”
“I knew help was nearby.”
“You used that night every time you told me the family sacrificed for me.”
Judith covered her face.
Ryan’s anger did not absolve him of Eli’s assault.
But another lie collapsed beneath it.
Caroline Voss called Hannah directly.
Her face appeared on the hospital tablet from Meridian’s executive suite.
“Do not believe Judith’s attempt to shift responsibility.”
“Where is Adam?”
Caroline remained calm.
“Adam died five years ago.”
“I saw current records.”
“Fabrications created by Owen.”
“Your niece was alive beneath Riverside.”
“I was unaware.”
“You share founder credentials with Harold.”
“That does not make every family accusation true.”
Then Adam stepped into view behind her.
Alive.
Weak, but standing.
Caroline placed one hand on his shoulder.
“He came to me voluntarily,” she said.
Adam looked toward the camera.
“Hannah, do not release Project Hearth.”
His voice sounded flat.
Drugged.
