Rebecca stared at the comparison.

Gabriel was their brother.

One operator warned that immediate shutdown could invalidate emergency certificates used by legitimate agencies.
Judge Keller ordered functions separated one by one.
No dramatic red button solved decades of dependence.
The Lydia recording was reconstructed from Fort Ashby logs.
Nathan had selected authentic fragments deliberately. He wanted Elise to hear real words and distrust any explanation.

“Move the Lantern House files tonight, and let Elise believe Charles ordered everything removed. If she knows I am active, Henry will move against her.”
Arthur answered:
“She will hate Charles for something you did.”
“She already has reasons.”

“I thought the danger justified borrowing your judgment.”
“You were wrong.”
“Yes.”
The admission did not end the distance.

Elise Whitmore—medical incapacity or fatal accident.
Rebecca had not been positioned beside Elise as an equal heir.
She had been positioned as the cleaner survivor after Elise’s removal.
Nathan planned to give one daughter authority purchased through the other’s death.
Rebecca left the evidence room and stood alone in the corridor.
Elise followed but stopped several feet away.
“I don’t need you to say he failed because we became sisters,” Rebecca said.
“Good.”
“I represented you because Lydia’s money placed your case before me.”
“Yes.”
“I cared before I knew.”
“Yes.”
“Do you believe that?”
“I am trying to separate what you chose from what he arranged.”
Rebecca nodded.
“That is all I can ask.”
Caleb Dane’s live feed from the Georgetown townhouse continued.
Nathan stood beside the terrace doors where Lydia had fallen years earlier. An unconscious man sat in a chair behind him.
Michael Lane.
Nathan had abducted him during transfer from the mountain hospital by using a vehicle carrying Rebecca’s forged authorization.
The same false order that failed to remove Julian had succeeded elsewhere.
Nathan addressed the camera.
“Bring Gabriel and the trust key. I will exchange the man who raised Elise.”
Michael lifted his head weakly.
“Do not come.”
Nathan struck him.
Elise’s body reacted before strategy.
Naomi Park placed one hand on the table.
“Your fear does not decide the operation.”
Elise looked toward her lawyer.
“I know.”
The sentence cost her.
Gabriel volunteered to participate in a monitored negotiation.
Rebecca objected.
“Nathan designed you to believe danger proves usefulness.”
“I know.”
“Then why go?”
“Because my credentials can revoke the forged system, and because tactical officers need someone who understands the house command.”
Judge Keller approved only a remote role. Gabriel would not enter the townhouse.
Nathan expected his son’s body.
He would receive his verified refusal instead.
At 9:00 p.m., the lights inside the Georgetown residence turned on.
Nathan moved Michael toward the terrace.
The security feed showed Caleb Dane waiting behind a curtain wearing Gabriel’s face.
Then Charles’s voice entered the house speakers.
“You are making the same mistake Henry made.”
Nathan turned.
Charles was still in federal detention.
The voice had come from Fort Ashby.
