Chapter 1

Mafia Heir Abandons His Five Hundred Guest Wedding After Discovering His Missing Ex Wife And The Secret Daughter With His Eyes Before A Mysterious Convoy Surrounds Them In The Rain.
Garrett Hail stood in the rain outside the grand cathedral on Fifth Avenue, still wearing the black tuxedo meant for his wedding to another woman.
The white rose boutonniere on his lapel was soaked.
His dark hair clung to his forehead.
Behind him, five hundred guests waited beneath cathedral lights and camera flashes, whispering behind champagne-colored umbrellas.
In front of him stood Mave Whitlock.
Soaked pale blush-pink dress.
Trembling mouth.
Exhausted eyes.
And in her arms, a three-year-old girl clung to her shoulder, frightened and silent.
Posie.
Wet light-brown hair.
Small pink dress.
Tiny hands twisted in Mave’s soaked fabric.
And Garrett’s pale gray eyes staring back at him from a child’s face.
Coraline Ashford, his bride, stood frozen on the cathedral steps in her white gown and veil.
Garrett turned toward her, jaw tight.
“Then call her my daughter.”
Coraline’s face lost color.
The rain grew louder.
Garrett slowly lifted one hand toward Posie, then stopped before touching her.
He would not take.
Not from a terrified child.
Not from Mave.
Posie studied his face, then cautiously reached out and curled her tiny fingers around one of his.
Mave broke.
Tears mixed with rain.
“You don’t know what your family did to us.”
Coraline strode forward, gathering her gown.
“Garrett, walk away from them. Now.”
Garrett stepped between Coraline and Mave.
Then he removed his wedding ring and let it fall onto the rain-covered pavement.
“The wedding is over.”
Guests gasped beneath the awning.
Wesley signaled the bodyguards to close ranks.
Then black SUVs turned onto Fifth Avenue, headlights cutting through the rain.
Mave gripped Garrett’s lapel.
“Your mother will never let us leave alive.”
Garrett pulled Mave and Posie against his chest as Coraline watched with a faint, knowing smile.
