Chapter 24 - BROOKE LEAVES FOR COLLEGEI graduated the next spring.

Ohio State.
Civil engineering.
Close enough to come home.
Far enough to have a dorm door nobody in my family had a key to.
Mom cried at move-in.
Dad came too.

Ethan carried one pillow and declared himself exhausted.
Normal.
Mom and Dad stood in the same room without fighting.
Progress.
Before they left, Mom said:
“Call me.”
Dad said:
“Call if you need anything.”
I looked at both.
“I will call who I want.”
Dad smiled.
Mom almost did.
Then:
“Fair.”
