Chapter 1

My ex-husband thought one Christmas dinner would be enough to remind everyone I was the woman he abandoned. He expected me to show up alone, embarrassed, and broken. What he never imagined was that I'd arrive with the four biggest secrets of his life... and the moment he saw them, the perfect world he'd spent years building started cracking right in front of everyone.
The text arrived on a freezing December evening while I stood in my office overlooking the glittering skyline of downtown Phoenix. At first, I thought I was seeing things.
Julian Merrick.
Eight years had passed since the last time I'd seen his name on my phone.
I opened the message.
""Christmas dinner. Mom wants everyone together one last time. December 25. Hope you'll come.""
One last time.
I read those words over and over before a slow smile crossed my face.
Not because they made me happy.
Because I knew exactly why he had sent them.
Julian still believed I was the woman he'd left behind. The woman who cried after he packed his bags. The woman who begged him to stay after telling him I was pregnant.
He never believed me.
Instead, he called me a liar.
He filed for divorce before I even made it to my first prenatal appointment. He never asked about the baby. Never looked back.
He disappeared as if neither of us had ever existed.
Now he wanted an audience.
He probably pictured me walking into his mother's beautiful home alone while he proudly introduced everyone to the life he'd built without me.
My assistant, Maren, stood quietly in my doorway holding a stack of contracts.
""Tessa... you're not actually thinking about going, are you?""
I slipped my phone into my purse and looked back at the city lights.
""Oh, I'm definitely going.""
She frowned.
""Why would you put yourself through that?""
I smiled without taking my eyes off the window.
""Because he invited the woman he remembers.""
I finally turned toward her.
""He's about to meet the woman I became.""
Christmas morning arrived with bright Arizona sunshine spilling across the runway.
A private helicopter waited for us, its blades already spinning.
The four little people climbing aboard ahead of me were the reason I had survived every lonely night after Julian walked away.
Wyatt.
Miles.
Harper.
Grace.
All eight years old.
Two energetic boys.
Two fearless girls.
Quadruplets.
Every single one carried a piece of the father who never knew they existed.
Wyatt had Julian's steel-gray eyes.
Miles wore the same stubborn expression whenever someone challenged him.
Harper wrinkled her forehead exactly the way Julian always had when he was thinking.
Grace smiled with that same crooked grin that used to melt every argument before it even started.
Sometimes it still caught me off guard.
The man who insisted I had lied about being pregnant had unknowingly become the father of four incredible children.
He'd simply chosen to leave before learning the truth.
As the helicopter lifted into the clear winter sky, Wyatt pressed his face against the window.
""Mom?""
I reached over and squeezed his hand.
""Yeah, sweetheart?""
He looked at me with innocent curiosity.
""Are we really going to meet your old family today?""
My heart tightened.
I looked at each of my children before answering softly.
""Yes... I think it's finally time.""

None of them knew the storm waiting at the other end of that flight.
And neither did Julian.
