part 4

PART 4
Victor Lang had been with William since the beginning.
Before the glass tower.
Before the private elevators.
Before politicians took his calls in the middle of dinner.
They had built Harrison Global out of a warehouse office with bad coffee and unpaid ambition.
Victor handled operations.
William handled strategy.
Together, they became untouchable.
At least, that was the story William had believed.
Victor walked into the office slowly, hands raised like a man entering a misunderstanding instead of a crime scene.
“William, what is this?”
William stood behind his desk.
The untouched coffee sat between them.
“A lockdown.”
Victor looked at the boy.
“And who is this?”
Ethan lowered his eyes.
William moved slightly, placing himself between Victor and the child.
“A witness.”
Victor laughed softly.
“A child?”
William opened the blue folder.
“Mara Cole’s child.”
For the first time, Victor’s face shifted.
Only a fraction.
Enough.
Clara saw it.
The server saw it.
William saw it.
Victor recovered.
“Mara was unstable before the accident.”
Ethan’s head snapped up.
“My mom was not unstable.”
Victor looked at him with polite disgust.
“Son, adults are talking.”
William’s voice turned cold.
“Speak to him again like that and you leave this building in restraints.”
Victor’s smile vanished.
The security officer reentered.
“Sir, the substance in the mug is being sealed for testing.”
“The server admits he was paid through a shell vendor.”
William looked at Victor.
“Name?”
The officer hesitated.
Then read from his phone.
“Lang Strategic Services.”
Victor’s jaw tightened.
Clara whispered, “Oh my God.”
Victor turned toward her.
“Clara, do not be naive.”
William placed both hands on the desk.
“Mara found it.”
Victor’s silence answered.
William continued.
“She found the shell vendors.”
“The floor access overrides.”
“The succession trigger.”
Victor’s face hardened.
“You were going to destroy the company with your reckless expansion freeze.”
William stared at him.
“So you tried to poison me over quarterly projections?”
Victor stepped closer.
“I tried to protect what we built.”
Ethan spoke before anyone else could.
“You killed my mom too.”
The room froze.
Victor’s eyes flashed.
That was all the confirmation William needed.
He pressed the intercom again.
“Legal.”
“Bring the board to my office.”
“And call federal authorities.”
Victor’s confidence cracked.
“William, think carefully.”
William looked at Ethan.
May you like
“I am.”
