Chapter 1

Abused Young Woman Escapes Into a Stranger’s Car and Discovers the Man Protecting Her Controls the Entire Road.
Elena Vargas slammed the SUV door behind her and collapsed against the black leather seat, rainwater streaming from her long dark hair onto the torn silver satin dress beneath Matthew Carranza’s coat.
The luxury SUV was already moving.
Outside, the secluded estate road twisted through wet trees and darkness. Rain struck the windows in silver lines. Headlights flared behind them, too bright, too close, reflecting across Elena’s bruised cheek.
She looked back.
The dark SUV was still there.
Her breath broke.
“No,” she whispered.
Matthew sat beside her in a black suit, one hand holding an illuminated phone, his face calm in a way that did not feel gentle.
It felt dangerous.
Elena grabbed his wrist with both hands.
“Please… don’t let them take me back.”
Matthew’s eyes locked on hers.
For one second, he only looked at her.
At the torn dress.
The scratches near her ankles.
The bruise darkening across her cheek.
Then he shifted his body between her and the rear window without hesitation.
“Who did this to you?”
Elena tried to answer, but the pursuing headlights filled the back window again.
Her lips trembled.
“My stepmother sold me to save her company.”
Matthew’s hand tightened around the phone.
The driver’s eyes flicked to the mirror.
The pursuing SUV swerved closer and bumped the rear corner of Matthew’s car.
The cabin jolted.
Elena gasped and curled inward.
Matthew caught her against his chest with one arm, bracing himself with the other.
The driver spoke sharply without turning.
“Sir, the vehicle behind us is accelerating.”
Matthew tapped one concealed command on his phone.
The doors locked all at once.
Then he removed his black overcoat completely and wrapped it around Elena’s shoulders.
“Lock the doors,” he said coldly. “No one touches her.”
Ahead, two black SUVs emerged from a side road and slid into formation around them.
The vehicle behind them slowed.
Elena stared through the rain-streaked glass.
Then slowly turned toward Matthew.
She had escaped one nightmare.
