Thermal imaging showed a warm rectangular space beneath the storage area.
A hydraulic lift hidden under a workbench opened a narrow stairway.
The underground room contained medical equipment, canned food, surveillance monitors, and a bed.
Someone had lived there recently.
The walls displayed live feeds from Clara’s bedroom, Hannah’s apartment entrance, Martin’s kitchen, and the hospital treatment room.
The person beneath the garage had watched the rescue in real time.
On the desk sat Clara’s missing oxygen battery.
Beside it was a second brass padlock identical to the one used on the door.
A woman’s handwriting covered dozens of pages.
She called herself Faith.
Not Eleanor.
Not F-0.
Faith claimed Malcolm Voss removed her during the prenatal procedure but kept her alive inside an artificial gestational chamber. The account sounded impossible until investigators found medical records documenting an experimental ex-utero fetal-support system.
She survived with severe complications.
Unlike Clara and the second twin, Faith was raised entirely inside Voss facilities.
She believed she had no family.
Evelyn discovered her shortly before the crash.
The hidden room had been prepared as an escape site.
“Who built it?” Morales asked Martin.
“Evelyn.”
Evelyn planned to bring Faith home secretly, then locate the other twin.
After her death, Martin sealed the room.
Years later, Faith contacted him.
She threatened to expose his agreements unless he let her live beneath the garage while she collected evidence against Voss Continuity.
“How long?” Hannah asked through the police call.
“Four months.”
“You had another daughter living under our house and said nothing?”
“She told me not to.”
“You always obey the person who gives you a reason to stay silent.”
Martin looked toward the underground monitors.
“Yes.”
Faith had access to his tablet.
She could disable the heater and alter the trust.
She could copy Morales’s badge using images from courthouse surveillance.
She could control Clara’s phone and household cameras.
The evidence now pointed toward her.
Yet the diary described a different plan.
Faith intended to expose the institute by forcing its operators to activate every hidden account at once. She believed Clara’s Christmas Eve evaluation would reveal the beneficiary system, the guardian petition, and the hospital wing.
But she wrote:
Clara must not enter the garage. Eleanor promised she would remove her before Martin executed the heater command.
The hidden twin—Eleanor Two—had agreed to prevent the attack.
Something went wrong.
The final camera recording showed Faith leaving the underground room at 7:55 p.m.
She wore Evelyn’s red coat.
At 8:06, another woman entered.
Same height.
Same face.
Clara’s hidden twin.
The sisters argued without audio.
Faith pointed toward the garage.
Eleanor struck her.
Faith fell against the desk.
Eleanor took the brass padlock and Martin’s old work coat.
Then both women left through different exits.
At 8:18, one of them locked Clara inside.
The camera angle did not show which.
Faith’s phone remained on the desk.
Its last message came from an unknown contact:
One sister must experience the full exposure, or Hannah never learns the truth.
The sender used Martin’s device number.
Martin denied writing it.
Forensics confirmed the message had been routed through his tablet remotely.
Then a live feed appeared on the underground monitor.
The hospital corridor outside Clara’s room.
A woman in Evelyn’s red coat walked toward the door.
Hannah saw her through the glass at the same moment.
The woman lowered the hood.
Her face looked almost identical to Clara’s.
She pressed one finger against her lips.
Then she held up a handwritten sign for Hannah alone:
FAITH LOCKED THE GARAGE. MARTIN ORDERED HER TO.
