PART 6

The chart did not show a normal C-section plan.

That was why Julian tried to reach it.

Lorraine handed the folder to Dr. Mina Patel, the independent obstetrician Victoria had called from another Hartwell hospital.

Dr. Patel opened it and immediately frowned.

“This dosage schedule is unusual.”

Julian shouted from between the officers.

“She has anxiety.”

Dr. Patel ignored him.

She flipped another page.

“Why is her postoperative transfer listed for a private recovery suite outside the maternity wing?”

No one answered.

Chloe went pale.

Victoria looked at Julian.

He looked away.

That was answer enough.

Dr. Patel kept reading.

“Why is the newborn transfer authorization pre-signed?”

Lorraine whispered, “No.”

Victoria’s eyes turned deadly.

“What newborn transfer?”

Dr. Patel lifted the page.

“A neonatal observation transfer to West Annex.”

Lorraine shook her head.

“That unit has been closed for renovation.”

The suited executives looked at each other.

Julian’s face reddened.

“It was precautionary.”

Victoria stepped toward him.

“You planned to separate her from her baby.”

Julian snapped, “I planned to protect my son from an unstable mother.”

Chloe made a sound like something inside her broke.

“My son?”

Julian glared at her.

“You were not fit to raise him.”

Victoria moved so fast everyone flinched.

She did not strike him.

She stopped inches away.

That restraint made her more frightening.

“You threatened my daughter’s life.”

“You bruised her body.”

“You tried to control her surgery.”

“And you pre-signed papers to take her baby.”

Julian spat, “He is my child too.”

Chloe lifted her head.

Her voice trembled.

“He kicked me when I tried to call you.”

Everyone turned toward her.

Chloe touched her back.

“He said if I delivered here, nobody would question the complications.”

Dr. Patel closed the chart.

Her voice was controlled.

“This surgery is canceled under current team.”

Julian laughed in disbelief.

“You cannot cancel a delivery.”

Dr. Patel looked at Chloe.

“No.”

“But we can remove the danger from it.”

Victoria turned to the officers.

“Is that enough?”

The first officer tightened his grip on Julian.

“For now, yes.”

Julian fought again.

“Do you know who I am?”

Victoria answered before anyone else could.

“A man being removed from my hospital.”

The officer shoved Julian backward.

“Dr. Thorne, step back now.”
