Julian recognized the document after seeing the original paper.
He had signed a witness-protection authorization at twenty-three.
Anna—Ana—asked him to help hide an infant connected to the Vale family. She claimed Olivia intended to use the child to regain voting control.
Julian believed the infant belonged to a Vale employee.
He did not ask the mother’s name.
He did not ask where the child would live.

“What happened afterward?” Maya asked.

“Did you verify that?”
“No.”
“Why?”

Maya looked toward him.

“Yes.”
