Chapter 18 - MY EMAIL COST ELEANOR SOMETHING

The rehab facility’s temporary restriction had consequences I underestimated.
Eleanor missed a scheduled outing with Sancia and Juniper.
She had been looking forward to it.
Juniper cried.
Sancia used my email to say:
“Radnor isolates Mom whenever he is scared.”
Not true generally.
But in that instance, my overstatement contributed.
Then facility required extra safety meeting before discharge.
Two-day administrative delay.
Eleanor stayed in rehab over a weekend she could otherwise have gone home.
Insurance covered most.
She hated it.
“Your email cost me two nights in this place.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Do better than sorry.”
So I paid her uncovered room copay from my own money.
Not because legally required.
Because my premature accusation helped create the delay.
Then I wrote a formal correction for the record.
Not:
Sancia did nothing wrong.
Exact:
I used “stole” and “fraudulently sold” before the financial and title review was complete. No sale closed and no house proceeds were taken. Sancia did sign an unauthorized purchase contract and take steps toward a sale without Eleanor’s required written approval.
Precision.
That correction later helped my credibility.
Not because it erased the mistake.
Because I did not cling to exaggeration once facts narrowed.
Then Maelle asked:
“Why Grandma stayed extra?”
“Partly because I sent an email that made staff check safety again.”
“Was it lie?”
“Some words were too strong.”
She thought.
“Like saying never?”
“Yes.”
Children remember.
Then:
“Did Aunt sell house?”
“No.”
“Was she trying?”
“Yes.”
“Grandma said no?”
“Yes.”
“Then done?”
May you like
“Almost.”
If only.
