Chapter 17 - Diane counterattacks with family history

Mom wrote a seven-page email.

Subject:

What Elena has forgotten.

She copied relatives.

Aunt Susan.

Two cousins.

Paul.

Rachel.

Even Ben.

It listed everything Diane had done for me.

Childhood care.

College visits.

Moving help.

Wedding planning.

Grandma care coordination.

Then:

When Elena became financially successful, she voluntarily said she wanted to give back to the family.

True.

Then:

She is now rewriting years of generosity as exploitation because she resents becoming a mother while Rachel already has an established family.

False.

Then:

I fear postpartum hormones and exhaustion are influencing decisions she will later regret.

That line made Ben stand up from the couch.

“What?”

I took the laptop.

Read it again.

Postpartum.

The perfect way to turn my recovery into diminished judgment.

I wanted to reply-all.

Ben said:

“Don’t.”

I said:

“She just told everyone I’m unstable.”

“I know.”

“I have to answer.”

“You can. Tomorrow.”

I hated him for ten minutes.

Then slept.

Next morning I sent three paragraphs.

No medical defense.

No emotional war.

I am not asking relatives to choose sides. I have ended financial support arrangements that were based on incomplete or inaccurate information. Please do not request or transfer money on my behalf. My health is being managed by my medical team. I will not discuss private postpartum information in a family email chain.

Then stopped.

May you like

Aunt Susan replied privately:

Good.
