He remembered Miranda screaming that Ethan had been driving to confront him.

But he did not remember a formal accusation.
Detective Vega found the missing report inside a retired prosecutor’s archived files.
Miranda claimed Elias had threatened Ethan over custody disagreements and tampered with his vehicle during a visit.
The statement included a photograph of Elias standing beside the car.
The image was genuine.
Elias had changed a tire three days before the crash.
Miranda used the photograph to direct suspicion toward him.
Thomas Price interviewed Elias for forty minutes, then suppressed the report after Lucas paid him.
“Why protect you after framing you?” Leah asked.
“They didn’t protect me,” Elias said. “They kept the accusation available.”
It was leverage.
If Elias questioned the accident, Miranda could revive the report and make him appear responsible.
That explained the emails supposedly written by Leah. They accused Elias of causing Ethan’s death and warned him to stay away.
Miranda had isolated both of them using the same threat.
Aaron returned his badge pending the investigation into his father. No one ordered him to do it.
“I can’t ask Leah to trust the department while I pretend this changes nothing,” he said.
He continued helping as a witness rather than an officer.
Thomas contacted Vega from a motel that evening.
He offered to surrender in exchange for protection.
Before arranging the meeting, he confessed the basic facts.
Lucas paid him to intimidate Ethan and make him believe a fraud complaint would damage Leah’s future. Thomas visited the garage in uniform to strengthen the threat.
He brought a diagnostic device and pretended to inspect the car.
Lucas altered the brakes after Thomas left.
“I heard about the crash the next morning,” Thomas said. “Miranda told me Elias had done it. Lucas said if I spoke, the garage footage would show me tampering.”
Thomas buried Ethan’s complaint and Miranda’s false report.
He spent three years accepting payments.
“Why talk now?” Vega asked.
“Because Lucas sent me Leah’s porch video with one instruction: make the witness disappear.”
Evan looked toward the phone.
Lucas expected Thomas to kill him.
Thomas refused.
He fled because he believed Lucas would expose or murder him.
Vega arranged a guarded meeting at an abandoned municipal building.
Thomas never arrived.
His car was found beneath an overpass with the driver’s door open.
Blood marked the seat.
A trail led toward the river but ended at the concrete edge.
No body was recovered.
Aaron stared at the scene.
“This is what he did to Ethan. He removes the person and leaves the story.”
Nearby traffic cameras captured Lucas’s SUV entering the area twenty minutes earlier.
A second vehicle followed.
The plate belonged to Calvin Rusk, Miranda’s attorney.
Rusk denied involvement and claimed his car had been borrowed by an employee.
Investigators seized his office files.
One document revealed a planned emergency hearing to transfer Leah from Elias into state care.
The hearing request claimed Elias had coerced witnesses, leaked confidential evidence, and caused Thomas Price’s disappearance.
It had been drafted before Thomas vanished.
