Chapter 10 - The Agent in the Black SUVThe missing recovery agent was Daniel Knox.

He had worked for Vale Resolution Group for nine years. I approved his promotion personally after my crash because he often volunteered for cases involving disabled debtors and elderly clients.
He knew our access codes.
He knew where I stored equipment.
And he drove the first black SUV to reach the staircase.
The second man beside him, Aaron Pike, claimed he never saw Daniel remove the original wheelchair. During the paramedic response, Daniel entered the storage room under the pretense of securing financial records.
Then he left through the parking area.
His body camera stopped recording for seven minutes.
Camille froze his employment credentials and issued a recovery alert.
Daniel’s phone was found beneath a highway overpass.
The authentic will remained missing.
Lena searched his personnel file.
Before joining Vale Resolution, Daniel worked as a driver for Horizon Ridge.
He had transported Eleanor Finch.
He had also signed the vehicle log on the night Lydia was confined.
My trusted agent had spent years inside Marcus’s network.
“Why help me activate the debt assignment?” I asked.
“To find the will,” Lena replied. “The staircase emergency gave him lawful access to your apartment.”
The recovery team had not arrived only because my financial alert summoned them.
Daniel knew the alert would activate if Vanessa attacked me.
Someone had ensured he received the assignment.
My secure application had been compromised from the beginning.
The authorization button still released genuine evidence, but it also sent Daniel a hidden instruction:
Retrieve chair. Deliver covenant.
The user who embedded the instruction had founder-level access.
Only my father should have possessed it.
Or Marcus, if he stole the credentials before Adrian died.
A traffic camera located Daniel’s SUV outside an abandoned mobility-equipment warehouse.
Police entered.
The original wheelchair stood in the center of the floor.
Its back cushion had been cut open.
The sealed envelope was gone.
Daniel sat nearby with his hands visible.
“I didn’t deliver it,” he said.
“Where is the will?” Detective Hale demanded.
“A woman took it.”
“Who?”
“Nora Vale.”
I watched from the hospital screen.
Daniel looked directly into the camera.
“Not the woman in that bed.”
He claimed another woman had approached the warehouse using my face, voice, and biometric company credentials.
She knew the founder codes.
She opened the wheelchair compartment before he could.
“Did you know she wasn’t Nora?” Lena asked.
“I knew Ms. Vale was hospitalized.”
“Then why hand it over?”
“She showed me Adrian’s private authorization.”
Daniel produced a photograph from his body camera.
A woman stood beside the wheelchair wearing a dark coat.
She looked exactly like me before the crash.
Same face.
Same height.
Standing without assistance.
The image was recent.
My first reaction was not fear.
It was recognition.
When I was twelve, Vanessa once told me our mother had given birth to twins before complications forced doctors into emergency surgery.
Our father denied it.
He said Vanessa had invented the story after overhearing nurses.
I had forgotten it.
The woman in the photograph wore my mother’s emerald pendant, lost on the night she died.
Daniel explained that Marcus called her Natalie Vale.
According to the private authorization, Natalie was Adrian’s firstborn daughter and the original beneficiary of Vale Resolution Group.
My identity may have been placed over hers after she disappeared as a child.
Camille immediately warned that the claim could be fabricated.
The photograph could show prosthetics, surgery, or digital manipulation.
Yet the founder system had accepted her biometrics.
Then my company dashboard changed.
Controlling authority transferred away from me.
New owner:
Natalie Eleanor Vale.
A live message appeared.
