Chapter 9 - The Notary Who Remembered EverythingHer name was Eleanor Finch.

She had notarized corporate documents for my father for twenty-seven years. After Adrian’s death, Marcus reported that Eleanor had developed dementia and moved into assisted living.
In reality, Horizon Ridge placed her under a false incapacity order.
Lydia found her name in the same patient archive that contained mine.
Federal agents removed Eleanor from a private facility two weeks earlier.
She sat before Judge Reeves and examined the paper Marcus presented.
“The first six pages are genuine,” she said. “The final pages were replaced.”
Marcus’s attorney objected.
Eleanor continued.
Adrian originally divided company ownership between Vanessa and me.
I received fifty-one percent because of my experience.
Vanessa received twenty-nine percent.
The remaining twenty percent entered an employee trust.
The will contained a disability-protection clause:
No heir shall lose authority due to physical impairment, medical dependency, or temporary incapacity unless determined by an independent panel chosen before such condition arises.
My father anticipated that illness or injury might be used against us.
Someone removed the clause.
Eleanor identified the substitution marks around the binding and a microscopic seal embedded in the original pages. The final section lacked it.
Judge Reeves refused to declare the document fraudulent without laboratory review, but federal agents seized it under the medical-fraud warrant.
No estate ruling occurred.
Marcus and Evan were ordered to remain.
Before officers reached them, the courtroom lights failed.
Emergency doors unlocked.
The men escaped through the judge’s private corridor.
Reeves claimed he knew nothing about the outage.
No one believed him.
The authentic will remained missing.
Eleanor remembered one more provision.
Adrian created a “sister covenant.” Neither Vanessa nor I could sell controlling shares without first offering them to the other.
Marcus needed one sister dead and the other compromised.
My crash weakened me.
Vanessa’s involvement made her controllable.
The stairwell fall should have completed the plan.
Instead, it activated the debt evidence and reunited us with Lydia, Lena, and Eleanor.
I did not call that justice.
Justice had not yet occurred.
I called it interruption.
Vanessa was moved to a protected interview suite. She asked to speak with me without attorneys.
I agreed through video.
“Did Dad love you more?” she asked.
The question sounded absurd after attempted murder, forged debt, and medical captivity.
Yet it had guided her entire life.
“No.”
“He trusted you with the company.”
“Because I worked there.”
“He said you were responsible.”
“He said you were creative.”
“He gave you authority and gave me compliments.”
I had never understood how deeply she resented that difference.
Marcus exploited it.
He told Vanessa our father planned to cut her out completely. He showed her altered drafts describing her as unstable and irresponsible.
Evan promised to build her a wedding so grand no one would view her as the lesser sister again.
“I wanted one day where everyone looked at me,” she whispered.
“So you tried to make sure I never opened my eyes again.”
Vanessa cried.
“Yes.”
There was no sentence that repaired it.
She offered the location of Adrian’s authentic will.
Before his death, he gave her a sealed envelope and instructed her to protect it if anything happened to him.
Vanessa panicked after Marcus showed her the altered drafts. She hid the envelope inside the only place she believed I would never search.
My original wheelchair.
Not the damaged chair from the staircase.
The customized chair stored at my apartment after Evan convinced me it was unsafe.
Police searched the storage room.
The wheelchair was gone.
Building footage showed it being loaded into a black SUV during my hospital transfer.
The driver wore a Vale Resolution jacket.

One of my court-licensed recovery agents had stolen it.
👉 The authentic will had been hidden inside my first wheelchair, and someone working under my company’s authority had taken it during the chaos.
