The Pantry Camera / Chapter 5 / 15

Chapter 5 - THE CLEAR DROPS Daniel brought the bottle from home voluntarily.

It was small, amber-colored, and labeled IMMUNE SUPPORT FORMULA. Martin’s foundation logo appeared beneath the ingredients.

Claire had seen it in the refrigerator but believed it belonged to Daniel.

“How long have you given this to her?” she asked.

“Six months.”

“Without telling me?”

“Martin said it was part of a desensitization supplement.”

Dr. Roth stared at him.

“There is no approved home desensitization program for Harper.”

“He showed me a physician’s letter.”

“Which physician?”

Daniel retrieved an email signed by Dr. Amelia Roth.

It was forged.

Like the report sent to Owen.

The instructions told Daniel to place three drops into Harper’s food twice weekly and record any symptoms. The message warned that Claire’s anxiety might affect Harper’s reactions and recommended keeping the trial confidential.

Claire read that sentence twice.

The same manipulation had been used on both sides.

Owen was told Claire exaggerated the allergy.

Daniel was told Claire’s anxiety endangered treatment.

Each man was encouraged to act behind her back.

Laboratory testing found trace almond proteins inside the drops.

The dose was low enough to cause intermittent itching, coughing, or rashes without necessarily triggering full anaphylaxis.

“You have been exposing her for six months,” Dr. Roth said.

Daniel looked physically ill.

“I thought it was helping.”

“You never verified the instruction with her actual doctor.”

“I called the number in the email.”

“And spoke to whom?”

“A nurse.”

The number belonged to Northlake Diagnostic Services, the nonexistent laboratory that sent Lauren the concentrated packet.

Daniel covered his face.

Claire wanted to strike him.

Instead, she asked the only question that mattered.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

He lowered his hands.

“Because you would have said no.”

“That was my right.”

“I thought your fear was keeping Harper from getting better.”

“You thought secrecy gave you the right to experiment on our child.”

Daniel’s voice broke.

“Yes.”

His guilt did not make him innocent.

Detective Vega seized the bottle and Daniel’s emails. He was not arrested, but Claire asked hospital security to prevent him from entering Harper’s room without her permission.

Daniel did not argue.

Owen and Lauren remained under investigation. Both agreed to cooperate after learning Daniel had received nearly identical false medical instructions.

The manipulation appeared designed to divide the family into separate secret actions:

Daniel created months of low-level exposure.

Owen sought proof Harper was no longer allergic.

Lauren administered the birthday dose.

Martin’s foundation controlled the reports and supplies.

Yet no single digital trail clearly originated from Martin.

The messages passed through servers registered overseas.

The phone calls used generated voices.

The physical packages arrived through couriers paid in cash.

Then the pantry camera produced a new clue.

Owen remembered that the system kept local files even when the cloud application displayed nothing. Police removed the camera and accessed its internal memory.

Footage from Tuesday afternoon showed a person entering through the kitchen.

The figure wore Martin’s overcoat and used his access code.

But the person was shorter than Martin and walked with a slight limp.

The face remained hidden beneath a hat.

The figure opened the emergency pouch, altered the injector, and placed the silver packet behind Lauren’s baking supplies.

Before leaving, the intruder turned toward the pantry camera.

A woman’s face appeared for less than a second.

Claire knew her.

Celeste Ward, Martin’s executive assistant.

The same woman who had resigned from the foundation two weeks earlier and supposedly moved to Arizona.

Police found her apartment abandoned.

In the bedroom, one wall was covered with photographs of Harper.

Another displayed the three children whose trusts transferred to Martin’s foundation after their deaths.

Across Martin’s photograph, Celeste had written:

HE TAKES THE MONEY. I PREPARE THE MIRACLES.

👉 The woman who tampered with Harper’s injector claimed responsibility for creating the “miracles” that made children’s deaths profitable.
