Chapter 10 - Before She Answers

Camryn was not confronted.
The call was not answered.
No police arrived.
No divorce proceeding began.
No final consequence was revealed.
The story ended inside the upscale dining and living room at night, beneath warm chandelier light and deep household shadows, with shattered dinnerware, spilled food, red wine, overturned chairs, and two phones held above a broken marriage.
Sophia remained on the floor in her champagne satin slip dress and gold sandals, long blonde hair loose around her tear-streaked face.
Her knee stayed planted beside Marvin’s torso.
His wrist remained pinned safely against the floor, controlled but not injured.
Her own smartphone recorded his terrified face, the destroyed dining table, and the evidence surrounding them.
In her other hand, Marvin’s phone vibrated with an incoming video call.
Camryn’s smiling portrait filled the screen.
No readable text.
No subtitles.
Only the face of the woman whose recorded voice had already filled the room.
“If she resists, hit her until she learns her place.”
Marvin lay among the broken plates, sweating, humiliated, eyes stretched wide with panic. Moments earlier, he had towered over Sophia, roaring about obedience.
Now he shook his head silently, begging her not to answer.
Sophia’s tears still fell.
But her smile had become chilling.
She raised both phones higher so the recording captured everything together: Marvin’s fear, Camryn’s call, the shattered dinner, and the lesson that had failed.
Her thumb hovered over the answer button.
The room held its breath.
Nothing was resolved.
Nothing was revealed beyond that moment.
But Marvin understood the truth with grotesque clarity.

Sophia had not merely defended herself.
She had turned the third night of their marriage into the first piece of evidence neither he nor his mother could control.
