Chapter 10 - JENNA’S BARGAIN Jenna contacted Detective Ellis directly.

She refused to reveal her location until Molly was placed on the call.
Mother and daughter saw each other for the first time in four years through a secure screen.
Molly did not cry.
She stared.
“You let them take me.”
Jenna’s face crumpled.
“Yes.”
“You told Adam where to drive.”
“Yes.”
“Did you kill him?”
“No.”
The answer came too quickly.
Jenna explained that Family Bridge threatened to move Molly permanently unless she helped lure Adam to a meeting. She believed Pike’s associates planned only to seize the evidence.
During the drive, she noticed the brakes failing.
Adam told her to jump when the car slowed near a service road.
She escaped seconds before the vehicle left the mountain.
Family Bridge found her before police did.
They showed her photographs of Molly inside Orchard Hills and demanded silence.
For four years, Jenna worked inside the organization under a false identity. She copied records, moved evidence, and waited for a chance to free her daughter.
“Why didn’t you call police?” Molly asked.
“Pike was the police.”
“You could have found another officer.”
Jenna looked toward Dunham on the screen.
“I did.”
She had placed the old newspaper clipping beneath Claire’s coffee table during a supposed Family Bridge home inspection.
She circled Dunham’s name.
She later copied Claire’s handwriting and drafted the note telling Eli to find him.
Claire stared.
“I thought I wrote it during one of the nights Wade drugged me.”
“You wrote parts of it,” Jenna said. “I completed the name.”
The rescue had been engineered from outside the house.
Jenna wanted Dunham to enter because Adam’s files described him as the officer Pike could not fully control.
But Family Bridge discovered the plan.
Rather than prevent it, Dana and Raines adapted.
They allowed Eli to approach Dunham so they could frame the rescue as evidence of Claire’s instability.
Both sides had used the same child to trigger different outcomes.
Dunham’s anger sharpened.
“You placed a seven-year-old in the middle of an operation.”
“I placed him near the one person who might walk through the door.”
“You did not know Wade wouldn’t hurt him.”
“I knew Wade needed him alive until Friday.”
Claire stepped closer to the screen.
“You gambled with my son because you wanted yours back.”
Jenna closed her eyes.
“Yes.”
Her cooperation did not erase the harm.
But she offered Dana’s current location.
The abandoned industrial marina south of Portland.
Dana planned to exchange Noah for Adam’s original crash report, believing Jenna still possessed the only copy.
Police surrounded the marina.
Jenna arrived wearing a tracking device beneath her coat.
Dana emerged from a warehouse holding Noah by the shoulder. The boy carried Eli’s blue backpack and stared at the ground.
“Where are the files?” Dana demanded.
“Where is my daughter’s complete identity record?” Jenna replied.
Dana laughed.
“Your daughter has seven identities.”
Gunfire suddenly shattered a warehouse window.
Not from police.
A hidden shooter targeted Dana.
She shoved Noah aside and ran.
Dunham reached the child before another shot struck the concrete.
The shooter escaped by boat.
Dana was captured near the river fence.
Inside the warehouse, investigators found a rifle mount controlled remotely through Family Bridge software.
The intended target was not Noah.
It was Dana.
