Each defendant treated the conspiracy as a collection of coincidences.

Eli sat in a separate room with a child advocate.

“I remembered a child whose file should never have been closed.”
The attorney attempted to portray persistence as obsession.
Then Detective Ellis played Eli’s recording.
Wade’s voice filled the courtroom.

Raines’s evaluator license was suspended pending investigation.
Wade remained detained.
Pike was placed on administrative leave and then arrested on obstruction and conspiracy charges when Adam’s files confirmed his payments.
The courtroom should have felt like victory.
Instead, Detective Ellis received a message during the ruling.
