Chapter 1 - The Broom in the Luxury Boutique

Cruel Boutique Owner Beat a Sick Elderly Woman Until Wall Street Executives Arrived to Cancel Her Twenty Million Dollar Funding.
The decorative broom struck Eleanor Caldwell across the shoulders with a sharp, ugly sound.
The ultra-luxury boutique fell silent.
Crystal chandeliers glittered above mirrored walls.
Silk dresses hung on gold racks.
A white floral arrangement sat perfectly beside the marble counter.
Beyond the tall windows, the Seattle skyline shimmered beneath polished daylight.
Eleanor stumbled forward in her faded blue thrift-store dress.
Her worn gray shoes slipped slightly on the glossy floor.
A few wealthy customers recoiled, not because they rushed to help her, but because cruelty looked unpleasant when it happened too close to designer clothing.
Samantha stood behind her in a tailored white pantsuit, blonde hair styled perfectly, one hand gripping the ornate broom like a weapon she had every right to use.
“Get out, you infectious piece of garbage!”
Eleanor coughed weakly and lowered her head.
Samantha lifted the broom again.
A customer whispered, “Is she sick?”
Another stepped back toward the handbag display.
No one touched Eleanor.
No one stopped Samantha.
That was what Samantha saw.
No resistance.
No consequence.
Only an old woman hunched in cheap clothing inside a store that sold dresses worth more than most people’s rent.
Then the glass doors opened behind Samantha.
Three Wall Street executives entered in dark suits, leather briefcases in hand.
Beside them walked a dark-haired attorney in a black pinstripe suit, structured handbag at her side, face composed and unreadable.
Eleanor’s coughing stopped.
Slowly, she straightened her spine.
Her frightened expression vanished.
She lifted her chin.
“Good. Everyone I invited is here.”
Samantha’s hand froze around the broom.
One executive stepped forward, removed his sunglasses, and gave Eleanor a respectful nod.
“Mrs. Caldwell, we’re ready.”
The boutique changed without moving.
Customers stared.
Samantha’s face drained.
“What is this?”
Eleanor walked past her and stopped in the center of the boutique.
The attorney opened a black leather folder but did not reveal its contents.
Eleanor turned back calmly.
“Shall we cancel her twenty-million-dollar funding?”
Samantha’s fingers loosened around the broom.

And for the first time, the woman she tried to throw out looked like the most powerful person in the room.
