A technician disabled the circuit.
Police entered.
Grace Martin sat on the floor beside an empty portable incubator. She was weak, frightened, and holding a feeding bottle.
Her newborn was gone.
The cry came from a speaker designed to delay rescuers.
Grace had not seen her daughter since Samuel removed the infant for “specialized testing.”
He told her the baby carried a fatal condition and needed experimental treatment.
When Grace questioned him, she was sedated and moved underground.
Hope spoke with her by video.
The resemblance between the three women was unmistakable.
Grace was their half-sister.
Helen Cross was listed as the biological mother of all three.
But Grace remembered Helen differently.
“She visited me every year.”
“Then she is alive?” Hannah asked.
“She said she could never stay.”
“Where is she now?”
“I don’t know.”
Grace had received a letter three weeks earlier.
Samuel knows about the pregnancy. Trust no Whitmore facility. Bring the baby to St. Gabriel’s if anything happens.
Grace attempted to flee.
Samuel intercepted her.
The warning suggested Helen remained active and knew Samuel’s plans.
Yet she did not go to police.
She managed the family from shadows, sending daughters into positions she considered safer.
The pattern continued.
Helen protected people by moving them without consent.
Evelyn protected wealth by controlling identities.
Samuel protected the network by replacing evidence.
Different motives.
Same belief that children and mothers could be repositioned like records.
Police recovered the erased drives.
One file survived.
It documented the second newborn’s brief entry into Rosalie’s NICU room.
Samuel’s team brought Grace’s child through the service door during the blackout. They placed her under Rosalie’s profile while scanning her genetic sample.
The system now contained blood from both babies.
The state laboratory could no longer determine which newborn produced the Cross-family match without a fresh independent sample.
Samuel had contaminated the evidence.
Evelyn’s attack on the ventilator would then be blamed on Gloria, while Samuel removed Grace’s baby under Rosalie’s identity.
Rosalie’s death would appear as a medical crisis.
Grace’s child would become the legal Rosalie.
Hannah would leave the hospital with the wrong infant and never know.
Brooklyn ruined the plan before the full exchange.
The child in Hannah’s incubator remained Rosalie.
Grace’s baby was now missing.
Mara asked Grace what name she had chosen.
“Faith.”
Hannah held Rosalie’s tiny hand.
“We’ll find her.”
Grace looked at the screen.
“Samuel said Faith was needed to open something.”
“What?”
“The Whitmore Legacy Trust.”
A hidden clause required two living descendants of Helen Cross before the stolen patent and company shares could be transferred away from Evelyn’s branch.
Rosalie alone triggered investigation.
Rosalie and Faith together triggered automatic control.
Samuel wanted both children under identities he controlled.
Evelyn wanted one child removed so the clause could never activate.
The accomplices were also rivals.
Then Martin Vale arrived with a sealed family record.
Samuel was his brother, but Martin claimed he had cut ties after discovering the infant network.
He offered evidence in exchange for protection.
The record identified Samuel’s motive.
He was not merely Evelyn’s legal ally.
He was Helen Cross’s son.
Hannah stared.
“That makes him our brother.”
Martin nodded.
“Your older half-brother.”
Samuel had grown up believing Helen abandoned him while protecting the daughters.
He spent decades helping Evelyn control the bloodline that excluded him.
Then a security alert sounded.
Someone had entered Rosalie’s NICU room using Dr. Wells’s credentials.
Hannah turned toward the camera.
The incubator was visible.
The recliner was empty.
Rosalie remained inside.
