Chapter 17 - THE SERMON WITH TWO PASTORSGrace Harbor’s trustees had reopened the sanctuary without Javier’s approval.

They announced a prayer service for “healing and institutional unity.”
The replacement pastor stood behind the pulpit when families arrived.
He resembled Javier from a distance.
Same dark hair.
Same height.
Same white clerical collar.
His face was not identical, but surgical changes and careful makeup created enough familiarity for people who saw their pastor mainly across a large room.
He introduced himself as Javier Morales.
Several trustees nodded as though nothing were wrong.
The real Javier entered through the center aisle.
The congregation turned between the two men.
The replacement did not stop speaking.
“Our church has suffered from accusations made by confused individuals—”
Javier walked to the front.
“My name is Javier Morales.”
The other man smiled sadly.
“That is what the program taught you to believe.”
The trustees had prepared documents declaring Javier mentally unstable following the investigation. The substitute carried a corrected ordination record and a court order authorizing him to protect Grace Harbor’s property.
The same method used against mothers had reached the pulpit.
Discredit the resisting person.
Present a calmer replacement.
Ask the institution to choose whichever version required less accountability.
Javier took no document from the man.
He faced the congregation.
“My birth record was altered. I was placed through Family Harmony. I do not know the name given to me at birth.”
Whispers moved through the sanctuary.
The replacement waited, expecting the admission to destroy him.
Javier continued.
“That uncertainty does not make every person claiming my position authentic. And it does not make the evidence released from this church false.”
Pastor Javier invited Detective Collins to present the replacement file publicly.
The man attempted to leave.
Mark Cole and several parents blocked the side aisle until officers reached him.
His real name was Adrian Wells.
Family Harmony had erased a fraud conviction in exchange for two years of voice training and public appearances as Javier.
Adrian insisted Gabriel threatened his daughter.
Investigators documented the claim.
They arrested him anyway.
Coercion required examination.
It did not grant automatic innocence.
During the service, Claire remained in the church office with Lily and Emma. Olivia had been moved to an independent medical facility after Rebecca Hart was located alive.
Rebecca’s psychiatric records described years of delusions about a stolen child.
Hidden video showed staff repeatedly playing Olivia’s voice from another building, then denying any recording existed.
Rebecca had not imagined her daughter.
The program had used the truth to make her appear delusional.
Their first reunion occurred through glass.
Olivia held Lily’s paper crown.
Rebecca did not call herself Mommy.
She said:
“My name is Rebecca. I have been looking for a little girl called Olivia.”
Olivia looked toward Claire.
“You came back.”
“I promised.”
Claire knelt beside her.
“You don’t have to go anywhere today.”
Olivia studied Rebecca’s face.
“Do you know the song?”
Rebecca sang three quiet notes from a lullaby Olivia had hummed in House Seven.
The child began crying.
She did not run into Rebecca’s arms.
She pressed one hand against the glass.
Rebecca placed her palm opposite it.
That was enough for the first day.
After the church service, Gabriel contacted Anna.
He displayed the Pierce trust balance.
Eighteen million dollars had been transferred into twenty-eight emergency relocation accounts.
Each account was connected to one of the failed Sunday pickups.
“You stopped the exchanges,” Gabriel said. “The children still need identities after the records collapse.”
“You are using the trust to move them again,” Anna replied.
“I am giving them families.”
“You are assigning them owners.”
“I am doing what you tried to do for Claire and Celia.”
Anna did not deny the comparison.
“The difference is that I know now it was wrong.”
Gabriel leaned closer to the camera.
“Then name me.”
“You are Gabriel Pierce.”
“Name me as your heir.”
“You are my son. You are not my owner, and you do not own what happened to us.”
Gabriel’s hand tightened around the tablet.
A second figure entered behind him.
Samuel.
Alive.
Gabriel turned.
“I told you to remain in the medical room.”
Samuel struck him with the cane.
Gabriel fell.
Samuel took the trust device from his hand.
“You confused inheritance with authority,” the old man said.
He looked toward Anna.
“The final archive is moving tonight.”
Behind Samuel stood rows of transport crates labeled with children’s names.

One crate carried Lily Bennett’s hospital number.
👉 Gabriel’s attempt to control the trust was interrupted by Samuel, who revealed that the network’s final archive—and a crate labeled for Lily—was already being transported.
