PART 5
Celeste recovered before Adrian did.
That was her talent.
When rooms caught fire, she smiled and looked for the exit with the most cameras.
She stepped forward in the courtroom, red dress bright against the dark wood.
“This is absurd.”
Her voice shook only slightly.
“She vanished for months.”
“Now she appears with a baby and convenient paperwork?”
Evelyn looked at her.
“You should sit down.”
Celeste laughed.
“You do not get to give orders here.”
Margaret Shaw stood slowly.
“She does when she is the mother of the protected beneficiary.”
Celeste turned toward Adrian.
“Say something.”
Adrian was still staring at Noah.
His face had gone pale.
The baby shifted in Evelyn’s arms and made a small sound.
That sound did what the DNA paper had not.
It made him real.
Adrian whispered, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Evelyn’s expression did not change.
“You served me divorce papers while I was holding the pregnancy test in my purse.”
The courtroom went silent.
Adrian closed his eyes.
Celeste snapped, “That proves nothing.”
The judge-side legal officer lifted another document.
“The paternity result was filed through court-approved channels.”
“The trust notice is valid.”
“Until the child’s legal interests are reviewed, controlling shares in Vale Holdings are frozen.”
Adrian’s attorney stood.
“Your Honor, we request immediate continuance.”
Margaret smiled faintly.
“Now you want time.”
The judge granted a recess, but not before entering temporary orders.
No asset transfers.
No share restructuring.
No removal of trust reserves.
No private settlement without guardian review for Noah.
Celeste looked like someone had slapped her.
Not emotionally.
Financially.
That was worse for her.
Adrian finally looked at Evelyn.
“You should have told me.”
She stepped closer.
“No.”
“You should have been a husband safe enough to tell.”
His mouth opened.
Nothing came out.
For years, Adrian had believed money could turn every accusation into negotiation.
But Evelyn had not come to negotiate.
May you like
She had come with his son, his blood, and a trust clause older than his arrogance.
