PART 7

Celeste denied everything.

Of course she did.

“That trust was for consulting compensation.”

Margaret raised an eyebrow.

“Twenty-eight percent of voting shares is generous consulting compensation.”

Adrian stared at Celeste.

“You told me it was a tax structure.”

“It was.”

“For my shares?”

“For our future.”

That word hit the hallway hard.

Our.

Evelyn looked down at Noah.

There it was.

The future Adrian had planned while calling her the failure.

A future where Celeste stood beside him.

Where Evelyn disappeared under a confidentiality clause.

Where the company moved cleanly.

Where no hidden son interrupted the paperwork.

Adrian looked physically sick.

Celeste stepped toward him.

“Adrian, she is manipulating you.”

Evelyn stood.

Noah stirred but stayed asleep.

“You do not get to say that word.”

Celeste turned on her.

“You hid a child.”

Evelyn’s voice was calm.

“I protected one.”

Celeste’s face flushed.

“You think giving birth makes you powerful?”

“No.”

Evelyn looked at the courtroom doors.

“But your panic tells me the trust does.”

Margaret handed Adrian a copy of the pending transfer.

His hands shook as he read.

The signature page had his initials.

He looked confused.

Then horrified.

“I never saw this version.”

Celeste went silent.

Margaret nodded.

“That is the part we will enjoy discussing with forensic counsel.”

Adrian looked at Celeste.

“You swapped pages.”

Celeste’s mouth tightened.

“You were too emotional to handle the details.”

Evelyn almost smiled.

That was Celeste’s first honest mistake.

She spoke to Adrian the way Adrian had spoken to Evelyn.

Disposable.

Manageable.

Less intelligent than the person beside him.

Adrian heard it.

Finally.

The courtroom clerk called everyone back inside.

Celeste tried to take Adrian’s arm.

He pulled away.

Small movement.

Large collapse.

Inside the courtroom, Margaret filed an emergency motion to review the transfer documents for fraud.

The judge granted it.

The Marrow Strategic Trust was frozen too.

Celeste sat down slowly.
