Chapter 13 - The Man Who Introduced VictoriaDaniel Price arrived at Boston Mercy voluntarily.

He wore a dark overcoat and carried the same composed expression he used during board negotiations and family funerals.
Police searched him before allowing him onto the twelfth floor.
Nathan waited outside Room 1204.
“You knew Amelia was alive.”
Daniel removed his gloves.
“Yes.”
The answer came without hesitation.
“You watched me bury her.”
“I watched you bury an empty coffin.”
“You wrote the death filings.”
“At Amelia’s request.”
Amelia stood behind Nathan.
“I asked him to protect Lily’s identity.”
Nathan turned toward her.
“You let him manage my grief.”
“I thought Daniel was helping dismantle Lantern.”
Daniel smiled faintly.
“I was.”
Carmen stepped closer.
“You introduced Victoria.”
“Because Lantern had already selected her. I wanted someone near Nathan whom I could monitor.”
“You placed an abuser inside their home to observe her.”
“I did not know she would cross into physical manipulation.”
Victoria shouted from down the hallway.
“You trained me!”
Daniel looked toward her.
“I gave you legal boundaries. You ignored them.”
Victoria laughed.
“You sent the messages from Amelia’s account.”
“Some.”
Amelia’s face hardened.
Daniel admitted using her recorded voice to direct Victoria when Amelia refused to approve certain operations.
He believed controlled imitation was necessary to keep Victoria compliant.
“You manufactured consent,” Nathan said.
“I preserved an undercover position.”
“You cannot preserve an operation by turning my daughter into its evidence.”
Daniel’s mask slipped.
“Lily’s case opened the archive. Without it, seven other children remained erased.”
“So you sacrificed one.”
“I calculated intervention before irreversible harm.”
Dr. Mercer stepped forward.
“You do not control what becomes irreversible.”
Daniel looked at Lily’s sealed surgical and medical reports.
“She survived.”
The phrase transformed Nathan’s anger into something colder.
Every architect of Lantern eventually said the same thing.
The child survived.
Therefore the plan was defensible.
Nathan struck Daniel.
One decisive blow.
Security separated them.
Daniel touched his bleeding lip.
“You just gave Victoria’s attorney evidence that you are unstable.”
Nathan understood the trap only after he moved.
Daniel had provoked him within camera range.
The pattern continued.
Carmen requested all footage preserved with full context.
Daniel handed police an encrypted drive.
It contained Project Lantern’s founder agreements.
Helen Reed created the clinical protocols.
Amelia created the protected-identity model.
Daniel created the legal framework.
Nathan’s company supplied the encrypted infrastructure.
Sophie Reed developed the financial audit that first exposed donor misuse.
Four people attempted to control a system designed around secrecy.
Then Aster security and private donors took over.
Daniel claimed he had spent five years engineering an exposure event large enough to survive hospital influence.
Room 1204 was that event.
“You scheduled tonight,” Nathan said.
“I created the conditions.”
“You knew Victoria would act.”
“I knew pressure would make her reveal herself.”
“Lily was the pressure.”
Daniel did not deny it.
Amelia asked about the Custodian messages sent under her name.
Daniel said not all came from him.
Another administrator had access to every founder credential.
Someone known only as The Witness.
The Witness never issued medical orders.
They recorded decisions and released evidence when founders turned against each other.
Lily’s hidden recorder had been placed beneath the mattress by the Witness.
Nathan searched the device metadata.
It connected automatically to a private Cole Systems archive.
The account owner was Lily.
Created when she was three years old.
A folder opened.
Inside were hundreds of recordings made from Room 1204 over five years.
The earliest showed Amelia lying in the bed on the night she supposedly died.
Helen stood beside her.
Daniel held the privacy form.
Carmen entered wearing a student nurse badge.
She approached the mattress and hid the first recorder beneath it.
Carmen stared at the image.
“I wasn’t working here yet.”
Her face, voice, and badge number were unmistakable.
Then the young woman on-screen turned toward the camera.
A scar crossed her left wrist.
May you like
Present-day Carmen had the same scar.
👉 Daniel admitted engineering Lily’s exposure, while the oldest recording showed Carmen inside Room 1204 on the night Amelia vanished—years before Carmen claimed she joined the hospital.
