Julian was an attorney.
Former associate at Ellsworth Meridian’s outside counsel.
Later a partner at a Long Island firm.
He had been twenty-eight when my grandmother died.
He remembered me from one shareholder meeting.

Then he saw the orchid ring.
“Does Richard know?”

“No.”
“Then I won’t tell him.”

He did not ask what my net worth was.

That almost made me trust him.
