Chapter 20 - MY OWN DECEPTIONI had lied by omission.
I had to own that.
Richard once asked:
“Is your inheritance over five million?”
I said:
“No.”
Technically, the inheritance he knew about was not.
But my beneficial interests were far greater.
That answer was intentionally misleading.
Why?
Because by then he monitored money.
Because I was afraid.
Still misleading.
In therapy I said:
“I hid the truth because he wasn’t safe.”
My therapist asked:
“When did he become unsafe?”
I had no clean date.
Hard truth:
Some secrecy began before the abuse.
I wanted a normal life.
I wanted Richard to love Maya the employee, not Maya Ellsworth.
That romantic experiment became dishonest.
