The protocol was called Monroe Shield.
Lillian hated the name.
Her grandfather had chosen it anyway.
The protocol did three things.
First, it saved all security footage to an external legal server.
Second, it froze discretionary access to Vale family accounts tied to the Monroe Trust.
Third, it alerted the estate attorney, the board chair, and the private security director.
Lillian had thought it sounded extreme when her attorney explained it.
Now, sitting on the kitchen floor with Colton above her and Reagan laughing beside the island, it sounded merciful.
She tapped the side button of her phone three times.
The screen was cracked from where it hit the table leg.
But the emergency sequence worked.
Cynthia saw the notification first.
Her face shifted from cold superiority to alarm.
“What did you just do?”
Lillian stood slowly.
The pain in her cheek sharpened.
She ignored it.
“I activated the protocol.”
Colton scoffed.
“You activated what?”
Lillian removed the wedding ring.
The diamond flashed under the kitchen lights.
She placed it on the wet counter.
“Everything you live on is mine.”
Reagan laughed once.
Then stopped when her own phone buzzed.
Her expression changed.
“What happened to my card?”
Cynthia’s phone rang next.
Then Harrison’s.
Then Colton’s.
One by one, the sounds filled the kitchen like a countdown.
Colton looked at his screen.
His face went pale.
“Why is the company account locked?”
Harrison stood.
“What account?”
Colton swallowed.
“All of them.”
Cynthia gripped the chair.
“That is not possible.”
Lillian looked at her.
“It is when the accounts were never yours.”
The kitchen door opened.
A security director stepped in with two uniformed estate officers behind him.
He did not look at Colton.
He looked at Lillian.
“Mrs. Vale, are you safe?”
Colton shouted, “Why are you asking her?”
The security director’s face did not change.
“Because she owns the estate security contract.”
Reagan whispered, “No.”
Lillian picked up her phone.
Her hand was steady now.
“Yes.”
