Civil property attorney.
She reviewed the documents.
Then pointed to a signature.
“Maya, is this yours?”
Maya stared.
“Yes.”
My stomach dropped.
Quitclaim deed involving the Arlington townhouse.
She had signed.
“Why?”
Victoria told her I would lose the property to a creditor unless she transferred her marital interest temporarily.
Julian brought a mobile notary.
Maya refused first.
Then Julian produced an email supposedly from me:
Please sign. Mom will explain.
Forged?
Maybe.
But Maya signed.
Under pressure.
That distinction would complicate everything.
