Chapter 11 - THE OLD EMPLOYEEMarcus Hill had worked for Briarstone eight years.

Project superintendent.
He quit five months after my burn.
Daniel found him.
Marcus remembered Jason returning to the office the morning after I was hospitalized.
“He was weird.”
“What does that mean?”
“Too calm.”
Not evidence.
Then:
“He asked whether job-site safety training covered kitchen accidents.”
Weird again.
Still not proof.
Then Marcus remembered something better.
Jason asked him to dispose of a scorched area rug from our kitchen because:
“Iris doesn’t want to see it.”
I had never asked.
Marcus picked it up.
Before throwing it out, he photographed it because the expensive rug seemed salvageable.
The photograph showed the burn pattern.
Hot liquid concentrated several feet away from the stove.
That did not fit Jason’s claim that I pulled the pot down directly onto myself beside the burner.
It fit movement.
May you like
Thrown or carried.
Still not enough alone.
