Chapter 25 - THE CRIMINAL CASEJason eventually went to trial on the assault case.

I testified again.
Harder the second time.
His defense centered on my original hospital statement.
Accident.
Accident.
Accident.
I said:
“I lied.”
“Under pressure?”
“Yes.”
“Pressure you cannot document?”
“Not every part.”
“So the jury should believe your current version because now it financially benefits you?”
“No.”
“Then why?”
“Because other evidence exists.”
The jury considered:
Medical patterns.
Audio.
Contemporaneous text.
The rug photograph.
Jason’s email.
His testimony about my immediate accusation.
Threat context.
No one piece solved it.
Together, they mattered.
He was convicted of a serious assault offense supported by the evidence presented, though not the most aggravated theory prosecutors initially considered.
No attempted-murder conviction.
No life sentence.
Sentencing included incarceration, supervision, and no-contact conditions.
