Chapter 23 - JASON ON THE STANDAt the final divorce evidentiary hearing, Jason testified.
Daniel asked:
“Did you ever physically force Mrs. Mercer’s hand or body toward boiling water?”
“No.”
“Did you hold the pot?”
“I may have touched it.”
“Did you tell emergency staff she pulled it?”
“I told them what I believed happened.”
“Did you write that she was ‘sticking with the accident version’?”
Jason stared at the email.
“Yes.”
“What other version existed?”
Long silence.
“My wife was emotional.”
“That does not answer my question.”
Jason looked at me.
Then the judge.
Finally:
“She accused me of throwing it.”
There.
First acknowledgement that I had accused him immediately.
“When?”
“That night.”
“Before the hospital?”
“Yes.”
“And yet your sworn declaration says she never alleged intentional conduct until the divorce.”
Jason’s face changed.
