Chapter 11 - Noah draws a line

Noah and I had fought during our marriage about my parents.

He thought Victoria interfered.

I thought he was sensitive.

Sometimes he was.

Sometimes I was defensive.

After Gigi’s hospital visit, he asked for a formal temporary agreement.

“No unsupervised contact with Arthur.”

“Obviously.”

“No unsupervised contact with your parents for now.”

I stared.

“My parents didn’t hit her.”

“Your mother protected the person who did.”

“She’s still Gigi’s grandmother.”

“I know.”

“Noah.”

“I’m not asking to cut them off forever.”

“What are you asking?”

“That we don’t leave our two-year-old with people who think Arthur’s slap was acceptable.”

That was difficult to argue against.

We wrote it into a temporary co-parenting plan through our existing family mediator.

No Arthur.

Victoria and Charles only with one parent present until the investigation and counseling clarified safety.

Victoria heard.

Exploded.

“You let your ex-husband decide whether I see my granddaughter?”

“No. I agreed.”

“He hated us.”

“He was right about this.”

The silence after that was extraordinary.

Then:

“You have chosen him over your own family.”

There it was.

Noah and I had been divorced almost two years.

Still, boundaries were interpreted as teams.

I replied:

“I chose Gigi.”
