Chapter 13 - Marissa’s message
Vanessa blamed Marissa heavily.
Too heavily.
Marissa had distorted Nora’s email.
Why?
Loyalty.
Fear of losing the Vale & Co. foundation contract.
She knew invoice review had begun.
She knew Derek’s relationship to Vanessa had not been fully disclosed.
She wanted Vanessa to prepare.
But Marissa had not told her to tamper with my drink.
No evidence suggested she knew.
When police interviewed her, Marissa handed over her phone.
Messages showed:
They’re coming for us tomorrow.
Then:
Graham might say something tonight.
Then:
Don’t let Nora control the story.
Bad.
Not conspiracy to poison.
Vanessa asked:
How do I get him offstage?
Marissa replied:
Tell him you’re sick. Pull fire alarm. I don’t know.
People do stupid things in private messages.
Vanessa chose a worse idea on her own.
Marissa eventually lost her job because she had also participated in concealing related-party vendor information.
She was not charged in the drink case.
