Claire Cole Foundation stopped spending six figures on gala production.
That was Nora’s favorite consequence.
Our next annual fundraiser was held in a university event hall.
Still nice.
Not chandeliers nice.
More interpreters.
Better captioning.
Fewer floral installations nobody remembered.
We redirected savings into family language grants.
Donors complained the event was less glamorous.
Some.
Most survived.
The foundation also added two deaf adults to the board.
Not because Lily’s case magically taught us representation.
We should have done it earlier.
A foundation serving deaf families had been governed mostly by hearing relatives and professionals.
Embarrassing.
Claire had raised that issue before she died.
We had delayed.
