Chapter 16 - THE FERRETTI CLUB CHANGES ITS RULES
The club board wanted to call the incident:
“an isolated family disturbance.”
I refused.
Not because I wanted public scandal.
Because staff had obeyed Octavia when she used club resources to restrain a child.
That was governance.
We commissioned an external review.
Findings:
No written policy allowed physical restraint of guests or children except immediate safety emergencies by trained security.
Maintenance equipment had been used improperly.
Staff escalation lines were unclear when instructions came from a Ferretti family member.
Kitchen management felt unable to challenge Octavia.
New rules:
No family member could override safety policy.
Any instruction involving restraint required security leadership and lawful necessity.
Children could not be used as unpaid service staff at private member events.
Complaints about family principals went directly to an independent manager.
Boring.
Necessary.
Then one board member asked whether we should remove the brass floor ring.
“No.”
He stared.
“Why?”
“It secures equipment.”
The ring had not chained Silas.
