Chapter 26 - THE VERDICT, THE MONEY, AND THE NAME

The jury convicted Octavia on the central forgery and fraud counts supported by the evidence.

It also convicted her on the child-endangerment/unlawful-restraint charge related to Silas.

Not every count.

One broader financial-theft theory was reduced because the trust accounting contained legitimate expenses and unspent reserves.

Good.

The verdict did not need to maximize my anger.

The court’s findings were precise.

Octavia intentionally fabricated paternity evidence.

She created false communications to keep Maeve and me from comparing information.

She used a real support agreement as financial leverage.

She misdirected or retained funds beyond authorized purposes.

She knowingly lied to the twins about their father.

She ordered a five-year-old physically restrained in the club for trying to leave.

No finding that she intended to starve the boys over five years.

No kidnapping conspiracy.

No trafficking.

No two-million-dollar cash theft.

The proven acts were enough.

Sentencing came weeks later.

Octavia was sixty-five.

No prior criminal conviction.

Significant planning.

Five-year duration.

Partial restitution already available from frozen trust reserves.

Late admission.

Minimal early remorse.

The judge imposed a custodial sentence measured in years, with a substantial portion suspended after service, followed by probation and strict restrictions.

No contact with Silas or Jonah unless a future court allowed it.

No control over family support trusts during supervision.

Restitution based on audited figures, not slogans.

Mandatory counseling.

Appeal rights preserved.

Then my own case.

Diversion complete.

Restitution paid.

No conviction after successful completion.

Then paternity.

Family court entered legal orders recognizing me as father.

Parenting plan expanded gradually.

At first:

Two supervised visits weekly.

Then unsupervised daytime time.

Then full Saturdays.

No immediate overnights.

No equal custody overnight just because biology had been confirmed.

The boys had lived exclusively with Maeve for five years.

Attachment mattered.

Routine mattered.

Then after months of good adjustment, one overnight every other weekend.

Slow.

Correct.

Their names remained:

Silas Wynn.

Jonah Wynn.

No automatic Ferretti.

No heir branding.

If they wanted a name discussion later, later.

Then money.

Recovered trust funds paid part of the agreement shortfall.

I paid court-ordered support separately.

No one treated restitution as buying access.

Maeve’s civil case against Octavia settled after sentencing.

Octavia finally admitted in writing:

The paternity report was false.

The Luciano acknowledgment was false.

The separation of parent and children was intentionally maintained through those representations.

Maeve accepted financial restitution and dismissal of additional civil claims.

Not forgiveness.

Then family governance.

Octavia resigned from Ferretti Family Services Trust.

Independent professional trustees replaced her.

Every beneficiary now received direct statements.

No one person could redirect support without dual approval.

No “matriarch discretion.”

The empire survived.

Of course it did.

May you like

It had never been threatened by children.

Only by adults who believed secrecy was governance.
