Chapter 11 - My mistake

Then I ruined my own progress.
Not the case.
My dignity.
I posted.
Not publicly.
Family group chat.
Twenty-seven relatives.
I sent a photograph of the $6,500 withdrawal slip.
Both signatures visible.
Caption:
So everyone defending Mom understands Dad has been signing Lizzy’s money out too.
Within an hour, somebody forwarded it.
Then somebody else.
By evening, a private local Facebook group had:
GRANDPARENTS ACCUSED OF STEALING ORPHAN’S TRUST.
I felt sick.
Rebecca called.
“Delete your group message.”
“I already did.”
“Too late.”
“I wanted the family to stop blaming me.”
“Understandable.”
I waited.
“Not useful.”
Of course.
Walt’s lawyer claimed I was publicly defaming him before the accounting was complete.
And he had a point.
I had called it taking Lizzy’s money.
Legally, some expenses could be reimbursable.
I issued no dramatic public apology.
Through counsel, we clarified:
The account was under review.
No final finding had been made regarding misuse.
I stopped posting.
The lesson hurt because my anger was not imaginary.
