Chapter 15 - the withdrawal made after the verdict

Grace froze the second account before the withdrawal completed.

The bank provided the authorization record within hours.

The request came from an automated instruction created nine months earlier.

Rose had scheduled it long before her arrest.

No unknown partner was required.

She had designed one final event to occur after conviction.

If she won the case, the account remained hidden.

If she lost, the withdrawal activated and created the appearance that Naomi and Adrian had secretly moved money together from the beginning.

The amount requested was the full two million dollars.

The destination was not Rose’s company.

It was a trust bearing Naomi’s mother’s name.

The structure was cruelly precise.

Rose wanted investigators to believe Naomi had traded access to Adrian for lifelong security for her family.

Adrian’s biometric approval came from the same copied fingerprint used on the mansion tablet.

The funds originated from his personal emergency account, which Rose had authority to view during the marriage.

Forensic evidence would eventually prove the transfer fraudulent.

Until then, the allegation would exist.

Reporters learned about the account before the bank completed its review.

The story spread immediately.

MAID WHO EXPOSED BILLIONAIRE’S WIFE LINKED TO SECRET TWO-MILLION-DOLLAR TRUST.

Questions returned.

Had Naomi manipulated Adrian?

Had the fraud case concealed an affair?

Had Rose been a criminal and a betrayed wife?

The public preferred contradiction to clarity.

Naomi’s new employer placed her on paid leave while the account was investigated. Her mother’s clinic received calls from reporters. Strangers gathered outside Naomi’s apartment again.

Rose had reached beyond prison through scheduled paperwork.

Adrian wanted to hold a press conference.

Naomi stopped him.

“You defending me personally will make the allegation stronger.”

“Silence will make it look true.”

“Then release the forensic facts through the bank and investigators. Do not stand beside me and create the photograph she wanted.”

He understood.

They issued separate statements.

Adrian confirmed he had never knowingly transferred money to Naomi.

Naomi confirmed she had never requested, received, or controlled the funds.

The bank authenticated the copied biometric film and the automated instruction. The account was marked as fraudulent.

But one detail remained unexplained.

The original two-million-dollar deposit had been initiated from Adrian’s private office computer.

Rose was attending a public gala at the time.

Remote access was possible, but the computer’s camera had recorded someone seated before it.

The image file had been corrupted.

Technicians restored only eight seconds.

A person wearing Rose’s red satin dress sat in Adrian’s chair.

The face remained outside the frame.

The hands were visible.

One hand placed a copied fingerprint on the scanner.

The other wore a plain silver band.

Rose never wore silver.

She wore gold.

Grace warned against assuming another conspirator.

Rose could have changed jewelry or placed the dress on an assistant who did not understand the transaction.

The criminal evidence still established Rose as the architect.

Yet the automated withdrawal had been activated by a verification step requiring a recent response.

Someone had logged into the trust system after the verdict.

The scheduled instruction alone could not explain that access.

The login originated from inside the Bellamy mansion.

Adrian ordered the property locked down.

Security searched every room.

No intruder appeared.

Then Naomi remembered the service tablet.

The device Rose used to copy Adrian’s access had been sealed as evidence during trial. Afterward, it was returned to the household office and disconnected from the network.

Or it should have been.

The tablet was missing.

A camera showed it leaving the evidence room inside a box marked for the employee-protection office.

The box had arrived at the mansion that morning.

Clara had signed for it but had not opened it.

Security found the empty container near the servants’ stairwell.

Beside it lay a gray maid’s uniform and white apron identical to Naomi’s old clothes.

A phone rested on top.

Its screen displayed a live video from somewhere inside the mansion.

Naomi watched herself standing in the foyer beside Adrian.

The camera angle came from above the chandelier.

Someone had restored Rose’s hidden surveillance system.

A message appeared without sound:

You proved what I did. Now prove who helped me do it.

Adrian looked toward the ceiling.

The chandelier camera rotated slowly.

Then the locked front door opened by itself.

Footsteps crossed the marble beyond the dark entrance.

Naomi did not retreat.

But when the figure stepped into the light wearing the same red satin dress Rose had worn during the slap, Adrian’s face turned white.

The woman lifted one hand.

May you like

A plain silver band flashed around her finger.

And Adrian whispered a name Naomi had never heard before.
