“What was the supermarket operation meant to do?” Lena asked.
“Obtain the transfer before Oliver’s birth.”
“And if Claire refused?”
Victor looked toward the table.
“Evan was supposed to create a public emotional incident. Nothing more.”
“You watched him shove her.”
“Yes.”
“You did not call police.”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because the fall might have solved the succession problem.”
The admission finally removed the last legal distance between Victor and the violence.
He agreed to testify against Elaine in exchange for a reduced sentence. Prosecutors made no promises.
Victor revealed a private Northbridge clinic where Elaine stored samples from disputed heirs and spouses.
Police searched it.
