Rebecca Vale managed the insurance brokerage that covered the warehouse.
She had processed Michael’s accident claim.
She also administered the policy that funded part of Anna’s original trust.
Her connection to the family extended back more than a decade.
Unlike Peter, Rebecca had no direct access to Sophie’s trust.
She benefited from the warehouse settlement.
After Michael’s fall, the owner paid a large liability claim rather than face a public investigation into maintenance failures.
Rebecca’s brokerage earned a substantial commission from restructuring the company’s policies.
Financial records showed she transferred part of that commission to Peter’s law firm.
The siblings profited from both sides.
Peter created Michael’s incapacity and trust dispute.
Rebecca converted the warehouse’s negligence into insurance business.
Margaret had met Rebecca several times in the dining room.
Sophie remembered her because Rebecca resembled photographs of Anna, though they were not related.
Rebecca had soft blond hair and wore the same pearl earrings each time.
She spoke kindly to Sophie.
That made the betrayal harder for the child to understand.
“Was the nice lady bad too?” Sophie asked.
Michael answered carefully.
“She helped people who hurt us.”
“Did she hit anyone?”
“No.”
“Then why did she help?”
“Money. And because she thought paperwork would hide what happened.”
Rebecca initially denied every allegation.
The warehouse phone recording placed her in Michael’s house on the morning Curtis received access.
The dining-room camera showed her passing Peter a sealed vial.
The trust payments showed Peter reimbursing her company for medical-risk consultation.
When confronted, Rebecca blamed her brother.
“He said Michael was committing fraud through Anna’s trust.”
“Did you verify that?” Laura asked.
“No.”
“You helped authorize Curtis.”
“I verified a service request.”
“Using a forged signature.”
“I did not know it was forged.”
“You answered Michael’s phone.”
Rebecca requested an attorney.
Police arrested her for conspiracy, fraud, and evidence tampering while reviewing her connection to the drug mixture.
She provided Peter’s likely hiding place after learning he had kept recordings that could implicate her.
The Vale family owned an abandoned lakeside lodge under a holding company.
Officers surrounded it before dawn.
Peter was inside.
He barricaded the study and attempted to burn documents in the fireplace. Smoke forced him toward a rear window, where police arrested him.
In his coat were the missing supplement bag and the dining-room memory card copy.
The central conspirators were finally in custody.
Michael expected relief.
Instead, he felt exhaustion.
Arrests did not repair Sophie’s wrist or return the six months they had lost.
The court restored the trust under independent management. Every fraudulent payment would be reviewed for restitution.
Peter’s license was suspended.
Rebecca’s brokerage entered regulatory investigation.
Curtis began cooperating.
Margaret remained detained.
Sophie returned to school with her cast covered in signatures from classmates.
Mrs. Kelly had written:

Sophie asked Michael whether bravery meant not being scared.
“No. It means fear did not get the final decision.”
At Peter’s preliminary hearing, prosecutors played the dining-room recording.
Peter watched himself discuss the accident, supplements, and Rosewood placement.
His calm legal persona disappeared.
Rebecca turned away from him.
Margaret stared at the floor.
Their confidence had depended on keeping every victim and accomplice isolated.
Once the recordings placed them in the same room, the alliance collapsed.
Peter’s attorney argued that Margaret acted independently in abusing Sophie.
Margaret’s attorney responded by releasing Peter’s instructions to create incidents.
Rebecca claimed she never knew about the child.
Curtis claimed he never knew about the drugs.
Every defendant began sacrificing the others.
Then forensic analysts recovered a deleted file from Peter’s lodge computer.
It was dated four days before Michael’s accident.
