Their attorney had disappeared.
The only preserved marker was Rachel’s newborn footprint card.
Harold kept it inside his private safe.
Police searched the Bennett house.
The safe was empty.

Charlotte read the message at the hospital.

Then she remembered a summer trip when she was twelve. Harold drove her to an old lakeside cottage and made her carry a metal box into the basement.
He told her never to mention it because the documents concerned Rebecca’s adoption.
Charlotte had forgotten the address, but Josh remembered the lake.

Detectives located the cottage through tax records.
Rebecca remained with Emma while Marcus, Josh, Charlotte, and police traveled there.

The twins had not been completely separated.

Charlotte was not suffering from unexplained mental illness.
Her parents had medicated her whenever she discovered family secrets.
“They made me think I was unstable,” she whispered.
Josh found his own folder.
It described him as the “compliant male child” most likely to preserve family loyalty.
Harold had studied all three siblings and assigned them roles.
Rebecca inherited responsibility.
Charlotte carried secrets and was discredited.
Josh received praise whenever he obeyed.
Their family had been managed like an institution.
Police also recovered footage from the night Emma fell.
A hidden staircase camera captured the full event.
Lorraine coached Emma to accuse Rebecca.
Emma refused.
Harold threatened to send Rebecca to prison.
Emma tried to run downstairs.
