Chapter 10 - STILLWATER Federal agents surrounded the reservoir before dawn.

The Stillwater bunker entrance appeared to be an abandoned maintenance building. Vale’s access code opened a freight elevator descending six floors underground.

Caleb wore a recording device beneath his shirt.

Mara ordered him to remain behind the tactical team.

He did not.

The bunker’s first level contained treatment rooms identical to those described by Alpine survivors: white walls, metal doors, temperature controls, and cameras positioned toward restraint chairs.

The second level held archives.

Rows of files documented decades of manipulated diagnoses, stolen trusts, and family separations.

The third contained patients.

Several adults were found sedated but alive.

On the fourth level, a speaker activated.

Pierce’s voice filled the corridor.

“Caleb, your inability to follow instructions remains unchanged.”

Caleb looked toward the nearest camera.

“Where is Anna?”

“Safe, until you destabilize the situation.”

“You made my whole family sick and called yourself a doctor.”

“I contained dangerous behavior.”

“You manufactured it.”

Pierce unlocked one door.

Anna sat behind reinforced glass.

She was thinner, her hair shorter, but alive.

Caleb stopped moving.

For nearly a year, he had imagined her body beneath frozen ground, inside fire, beneath a wrecked car.

Now she lifted one hand to the glass.

“Caleb.”

He could not hear her through the barrier, but he read his name on her lips.

Pierce entered from another corridor holding a tablet.

He was unarmed.

Or wanted to appear so.

“Sign the restoration waiver,” he said, “and she leaves with you.”

“What does it restore?”

“Your consent to treatment, financial management, and guardianship review.”

“It gives you control.”

“It confirms control that has legally existed since childhood.”

Caleb moved closer.

“My mother locked me in a cold room. You drugged me until I forgot. Then you stole my trust.”

Pierce’s expression remained clinical.

“You survived because we intervened.”

“Anna survived despite you.”

Pierce touched the tablet.

Water thundered somewhere inside the walls.

Warning lights began flashing.

“The spillway system has been opened,” Mara said through Caleb’s concealed earpiece. “We have twelve minutes before lower-level flooding.”

Pierce smiled faintly.

“The records disappear unless Caleb signs.”

Anna struck the glass and pointed toward the ceiling.

Then she held up two fingers.

Not Lily’s signal.

A second code.

Caleb remembered it from childhood.

Two fingers turned sideways meant look behind the speaker.

He moved suddenly, ripped the wall speaker from its mount, and found an emergency release switch.

The glass door opened.

Anna ran into his arms.

Pierce backed toward the elevator.

Mara’s officers entered from both sides.

He pressed another control.

Steel doors dropped between the team and the archive level.

Water began pouring through floor vents.

Pierce escaped upward while Caleb and Anna were trapped below with the records and sedated patients.

Anna gripped Caleb’s face.

“Lily?”

“Alive.”

She closed her eyes, almost collapsing with relief.

Then she pointed toward a service tunnel.

“Nolan has another child.”

“Who?”

Anna looked toward the rising water.

“Your brother.”

Caleb stared.

He had never had a brother.

At least, none he remembered.

👉 Anna was alive, but her first revelation inside the flooding bunker exposed another child Caleb’s parents had erased from his life.
