Chapter 1 - The Locked Hospital Door

A hospitalized woman secretly records her husband crushing her shattered leg and confessing that he caused her crash while his horrified mother watches the live feed from outside the locked room.

Claire heard the door lock before she saw Evan’s face.

The sharp click cut through the private hospital room louder than the monitor beside her bed.

Her head snapped toward the door.

Evan stood there in his tailored navy suit, one hand still on the lock, his silver wristwatch catching the cold clinical light.

For one second, he looked almost calm.

Then his eyes dropped to her cast.

Claire’s right leg lay elevated across the bed, trapped inside thick white plaster from thigh to ankle. Her pale hospital gown twisted around her bruised body. Wet dark hair clung to her face, and the marks along her cheek and neck were still too fresh to hide.

Evan removed his jacket and threw it across the chair.

The fabric slid to the floor.

He did not pick it up.

Claire’s uninjured hand began moving beneath the blanket toward the IV controller.

Slowly.

Carefully.

Her fingers shook, but not from fear alone.

“Evan… stay away from my leg.”

He smiled.

Not warmly.

Not like the husband who once stood beside her in wedding photos.

This smile belonged to a man who had waited for privacy.

He walked toward the bed.

The room seemed to shrink around him.

IV pole.

Fluid bag.

Cardiac monitor.

Wooden wall panels.

Framed art.

A concealed wall camera disguised as an ordinary sensor above the medical control panel.

Claire did not look at it.

Not yet.

Evan gripped the bed rail and lifted one polished black shoe onto the mattress.

His heel hovered above her cast.

Claire tried to drag her leg away.

Pain flashed through her so violently her breath vanished.

She could not move.

Evan leaned close.

“You’re lucky I didn’t finish the job.”

Then his heel came down.

The plaster cracked under the pressure.

Claire threw her head back, fists clamping around the bed rails, tears spilling instantly down her face.

But she did not beg.

She forced her eyes back to him.

Then, through the pain, she smiled.

A trembling, unnatural smile.

Evan’s expression faltered.

Claire whispered, “Then say it where everyone can hear.”

His eyes narrowed.

He leaned harder onto the cast and grabbed her shoulder.

“No one will believe a cripple like you.”

Claire’s thumb found the hidden button inside the IV controller.

She pressed it once.

A tiny green light flashed beneath the casing.

Across the room, the wall sensor silently turned.

Claire looked at Evan through tears.

“They already heard every word.”

The color drained from his face.

Then the locked door handle began shaking from outside.
