Chapter 3 - The Bracelet on Diane’s Wrist

Diane found the jewelry box first.
She opened it with a gasp so greedy it almost made Claire smile.
Almost.
The velvet lid lifted under chandelier light, revealing pieces Claire rarely wore because they carried more memory than glamour.
Her grandmother’s diamond bracelet lay in the center.
Diane touched it like a queen choosing tribute.
Claire’s face hardened.
On the feed, Diane pulled the bracelet out and fastened it around her own wrist.
The diamonds flashed against her pearls.
She lifted her arm, admiring herself.
Then she laughed.
Not loudly.
Worse.
Privately.
As if theft became harmless when the stolen thing looked good on her.
Ethan glanced over from the safe.
“Focus.”
Diane snapped her head toward him.
“I am focusing. Jewelry can be liquidated faster than lawsuits.”
Claire’s breath went cold.
Lawsuits.
So they had discussed this.
Not an emotional break-in.
Not a family misunderstanding.
A plan.
Diane grabbed a second jewelry bag and began sweeping earrings into it.
The ceiling camera pivoted silently toward her wrist.
The bracelet caught the lens.
Perfect.
Claire remained outside the front door, phone raised, white heels planted on the stone path.
The bright afternoon sunlight made the mansion look peaceful from the outside.
Inside, her marriage was tearing open every drawer.
Julian’s voice came through her earpiece.
“Protocol is active. All interior exits can be sealed on your command.”
Claire looked through the window.
Ethan had Marcus drilling into the safe panel.
The accomplices were moving boxes through the hallway.
Diane was wearing her grandmother’s bracelet.
“Seal them,” Claire said.
Julian paused only once.
“Confirm full lockdown?”
Claire’s eyes did not leave the screen.
“Full lockdown.”
Inside the mansion, every door lock clicked at once.
Diane froze.
Ethan’s head snapped toward the hall.
Marcus dropped a tool onto the floor.
May you like
The sound rang through Claire’s speakers.
